I remember…. It was a chilly February night in Delhi, when most of the people were snuggled in there beds three people sitting around a computer in a Sarita Vihar PG were trying to stay awake. Scraping ideas after ideas, trying themes after themes, creating something, then scraping it, then again starting from scratch, and ultimately deciding to call it a day when the clock showed that it was 4’o clock in the morning….. …..Sunday morning waking up at 8 hardly after 4 hrs of sleep, starting all over again, the three people once again sat huddled around the jittery old Pentium 3 machine. Taking ideas afresh, examining themes once again, examining templates, making new ones all over again, over cups of tea and toast. It was a proud moment for the three when the movie played on a large screen to a full house at the opening of EUREKA ’06. I remember….. Another chilly February night, three anxious people huddled over a table, this time in a ground floor room of the college, scribbling, planning, talking, arguing, waiting for the other three to return. Tired, hungry, sleepy, but committed to the cause. After some time to their much relief the other three returned, with a lorry loaded with the consignment, a few workers and a packet in aluminum foil. As soon as they entered the room they kept the packet on the table and it was forgotten in all the excitement, as the work began. Running up and down the college stairs, giving directions to the workers, trying to get the work done in the best possible fashion. By the time the work was completed it was two at night and someone remembered the aluminum foil packet. The six treated themselves to cold aloo paranthas and aam ka aachar. Next morning when the six returned to the college they were congratulated for their efforts. The work that had been done last night had presented a prod moment for them which marked the beginning of EUREKA’07. I know…. There are some people on these chilly February nights, trying to stay awake, huddled over a table or a computer, pulling out ideas after ideas from their hats, working hard, fighting hard, skipping lunch, losing sleep, waking up early, working again and waiting…waiting for their moment of glory to arrive. And when it arrives you will know that all the pain that you had gone through, all the sleepless nights when you tried to stay awake over cups of coffee, every time you lost hope and someone supported you, was worth it, so much so that you would want to go through it once again for the sheer rush of it. And when you feel the adrenalin rushing and find yourself basking in the glory of your own hard work, it will mark the beginning of EUREKA ‘08 |
