For all those who have fire in their bellies this business plan contest will provide an opportunity to test their entrepreneurial skills. Submission criteria For the open submission process (deadline February 8th 2008) students will submit an Executive Summary of business proposition in 1000-1500 words. Numbers contained in financial tables or statements will not be counted in the word count; all attachments are included in the page count. Below is a suggested template for students to use when developing their Business Plan. Proposed Product/Service: · Description of value proposition and features. Target Market: · Does the product/service address the market needs? · Who is the target customer? · Estimated size and value of market (current and projected). Competitive Landscape: · Overview of competitive landscape. · Describe the intellectual property associated with the business. · What are your competitive strengths? · Describe your competitors' strengths and weaknesses. · What are the barriers to entry? Execution Plan: · Current status of project (i.e. design, prototype, etc.) · Amount and uses of initial funding required. · 3 year financial projections. · Milestones for the next 6-12 months. Risk Analysis: · Describe any risks/challenges inherent in the proposed plan · How do you intend to counter this? Revenue Model: · How does your company plans to generate revenue Submission A qualified entry should have at least 1000 - 1500 words executive summary of the business proposition. This should focus on the relevant issues the business will face. Each entry must be authored by an individual/team. The team may have maximum four members. All team members must meet the eligibility requirements listed above but are not required to be enrolled at the same institution. Each team must designate a team leader. The team leader will be the primary point of contact for communication with the organizers and the recipient of any cash prizes awarded to the team. It will be the responsibility of the team leader to distribute the award money among team members. All entries should be in the form of a Microsoft Word document in font Times New Roman (size 12) and single line spacing. The cover page of each entry should contain the name, the name of the institute they represent, degree/course, e-mail address and phone number of the team leader and their members. These details should not be repeated anywhere else in the document. The cover page will not be counted against the word limit. The last date for submission is 8th February 2008 (1700 hrs.) The names of all semi-finalists a will be announced on the website. Finals Event The five semi finalists will present their business plans to a panel of distinguished judges on 21st Feb 2008. Further information regarding the time available for presentations will be made available by 13th Feb. 08. * The decision of the judges would be final and binding. Any dispute arising out of it or in relation to this contest shall be governed by the laws of India and shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts at Delhi. Submission deadlines 8th Feb 2008 Submission of Business plan 13th Feb 2008 Announcement of semi finalists 21st Feb 2008 Final Presentation of the Business plan Guidelines: The contest is open to students of all business schools. There is no entrance fee for the contest. The business idea could be in any industry/sector. However, the macroeconomic setting for the business is India, and the participants should keep this in mind. Conventional and non-conventional plans are eligible for the competition, provided these are for new ventures/new businesses. Plans for mergers, acquisitions or joint ventures with an existing entity will not be considered. There is no restriction on submitting the same B-plan to other B-plan Competitions. Contestants are allowed to submit more than one B-plan. Acknowledgment receipt mails will be sent to all contesting teams once their Business plan is received. Requests for revaluation of Business plan or extension of deadlines will not be entertained. The Organizers are not liable for any failure of the e-mail provider/network in case of non-receipt of Business plan within the deadline. Evaluation: All submissions will be evaluated in three equally weighted areas: the proposed product/service and its associated market opportunity; the businesses revenue model and financial projections; and the team’s execution plan. When evaluating, judges will be asked to consider (and provide a narrative feedback for the semi-finalists) a variety of questions associated with each area are listed below: 1. Proposed Product/ Service and Market Opportunity Is the value proposition sound? How original, innovative and thoughtful is the proposed product/service? Is the value proposition articulated clearly and evaluated comprehensively? Does the plan adequately describe the intellectual property of the business? Does the submission clearly identify a target market? Does the submission identify other key market participants (competitors, potential partners, suppliers)? Is the target market sufficiently large? Does the business concept have competitive advantage(s) over existing solutions? 2. Revenue Model and Financial Projections Do the financial projections reflect an understanding of the economics and potential growth opportunities or downside risks for the business? Are the financial projections comprehensive and realistic? Is the revenue generation plan logical and comprehensive? 3. Execution Plan Is the business operationally feasible? Does the submission clearly outline measurable, achievable milestones? Is the capital requested sufficient to achieve the milestones it is meant to help the business achieve? Do the founding team members have sufficient expertise to launch the business? Does the plan address any needs for additional key people and strategies to attract these individuals? Does the submission identify the major relevant risks? Does the submission addresses the risks appropriately and/or provide contingency plans? Is the submission structurally logical?
